The Cutter
Sheryl Pilkinton
Sheryl has over 30 years experience as a freelance costume pattern
cutter in the film and theatre industries, working in Sydney, nationally
and internationally. She also taught Period Costume Pattern
Making at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) for many
years. Sheryl's long list of film work includes, The Great Gatsby,
Australia, Star Wars - Attack of the Clones, Moulin Rouge and
Mission Impossible II. Having worked full time in theatre at the
beginning of her career, Sheryl's latest work was Opera Australia's
The Marriage of Figaro and Sydney Dance Company's, 2 One
Another and ab (intra). It is the love of passing on her
skills and experience from her varied working life, that inspires
Sheryl to teach. She believes that all you need is a desire to learn,
whether you have never sewn or made a pattern or have loads of
experience in the profession. Sheryl looks forward to welcoming
you At The Cutting Table in her delightful and spacious studio in
Birchgrove, Sydney.
The Table
Birchgrove Studio
The Birchgrove studio contains a wonderful collection of original
period garments. Coupled with an on site library containing an
extensive array of reference materials, it is the perfect way to
understand the construction and pattern shapes of clothing. The
recently renovated, light and airy space is a working studio with a
wealth of resources to benefit your lesson, including:
